Inside the CVA Optima V2 Northwest 50 Cal
The Optima V2 Northwest is the Optima built for hunters in states with tighter muzzleloader rules, such as Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
Length of pull is 14 inches and overall length is 41 inches. Always check your state’s current muzzleloader rules. It comes with adjustable fiber optic sights. The quick-release breech plug comes out by hand.
This muzzleloader has a corrosion-resistant barrel finish, which helps on wet days and long hunts.
What the 50 Caliber is good for
The 50 caliber is the most common modern muzzleloader bore. You’ll find the widest choice of sabots, conicals and pellet charges for it. Most hunters load 100 to 150 grains of powder (or two to three pellets) behind a 250 to 300 grain bullet. Check your state’s limits on charge size and bullet type.
For background on how in-line muzzleloaders work, the muzzleloader article on Wikipedia is a fair start. Your state wildlife agency sets the season rules.

Getting your muzzleloader ready
Clean it the same day you shoot. Pull the breech plug by hand, scrub the bore with a muzzleloader solvent, dry it, and put a light coat of oil on the plug threads before it goes back in. Fouling left overnight pulls moisture and starts rust fast.
