Inside the CVA Cascade 6.5 Creedmoor Big Sky
The Cascade is CVA’s bolt-action hunting rifle. Its 4140 carbon steel barrel is threaded 5/8×24 at the muzzle, so you can add a brake or suppressor where the law allows.
A removable spacer adjusts length of pull, so the same rifle can fit a teenager now and an adult later. Dual front swivel studs let you run a sling and a bipod at the same time. It takes two-piece scope bases made for the Savage 110, so mounts are easy to find. The bolt lifts 70 degrees, so it cycles fast and clears a big scope.
The Big Sky SoftTouch Gray finish keeps glare down in the field, and the synthetic stock won’t swell or warp in wet weather.
What the 6.5 Creedmoor is good for
Hornady introduced the 6.5 Creedmoor in 2007. Long, high-BC bullets hold their speed and resist wind, and it does that with modest recoil. There’s a huge range of factory ammo. For deer, 120 to 143 grain hunting bullets are the usual choice.
SAAMI publishes the official chamber and cartridge drawings on its cartridge and chamber drawings page. There’s also a readable 6.5 Creedmoor history on Wikipedia.
