Inside the CVA Cascade 6.5 PRC Big Sky
The Cascade is CVA’s answer to hunters who want a bolt rifle that fits more than one person. It has a threaded 4140 steel barrel, a 70 degree bolt throw and a stock you can shorten.
Dual front swivel studs let you run a sling and a bipod at the same time. It takes two-piece scope bases made for the Savage 110, so mounts are easy to find. The bolt lifts 70 degrees, so it cycles fast and clears a big scope. A two-position safety sits where your thumb lands.
The Big Sky SoftTouch Gray finish keeps glare down in the field, and the synthetic stock won’t swell or warp in wet weather.
What the 6.5 PRC is good for
The 6.5 PRC is Hornady’s 2018 short magnum. It runs the same long 6.5 bullets as the Creedmoor about 200 feet per second faster. That extra speed flattens trajectory and carries more energy for elk at distance. Recoil is still mild for a magnum.
If you want the technical side, the SAAMI cartridge drawings cover chamber dimensions. Wikipedia has a good summary of the 6.5 PRC too.
