Inside the CVA Cascade XT 6.5 PRC
The Cascade XT is the upgraded Cascade. It gets a #5 taper fluted barrel, Graphite Black Cerakote metalwork and an oversized bolt knob.
A two-position safety and a flush-fit detachable magazine keep the controls simple. The synthetic stock has a SoftTouch finish and adjustable length of pull through a spacer system. Fluting trims weight from the barrel and helps it shed heat between shots. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 (11/16×24 on the 450 Bushmaster).
Cerakote is a ceramic coating that resists rust and scratches better than bluing. On this rifle it means less worry in rain, snow and salt air.
What the 6.5 PRC is good for
The 6.5 PRC is Hornady’s 2018 short magnum. It runs the same long 6.5 bullets as the Creedmoor about 200 feet per second faster. That extra speed flattens trajectory and carries more energy for elk at distance. Recoil is still mild for a magnum.
SAAMI publishes the official chamber and cartridge drawings on its cartridge and chamber drawings page. There’s also a readable 6.5 PRC history on Wikipedia.
