CVA Scout 45-70 Matte features
The Scout is a plain single-shot rifle built for hunting. It’s light, it points fast, and a break action makes loading and checking the chamber easy.
A CrushZone recoil pad takes the sting out of heavier rounds. The DuraSight scope rail makes mounting an optic simple. A reversible cocking spur lets you thumb the hammer from either side, even with a scope mounted. A single shot teaches good habits, because you make the first round count.
The Matte Black finish keeps glare down in the field, and the synthetic stock won’t swell or warp in wet weather.
What the 45-70 Government is good for
The 45-70 Government dates back to the US Army in 1873, and it’s still around because it works. Heavy, slow bullets in the 300 to 405 grain range put down big animals. Modern factory loads are plentiful. Keep shots under about 200 yards and it handles anything in North America that you’re likely to hunt.
SAAMI publishes the official chamber and cartridge drawings on its cartridge and chamber drawings page. There’s also a readable 45-70 Government history on Wikipedia.
