What you get with the CVA Optima V2 50 Cal Stainless
The Optima V2 is CVA’s mid-range break-action muzzleloader. It has a stainless or nitride barrel and a quick-release breech plug.
It’s drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It fires with a 209 primer and has a 1:28 twist. The quick-release breech plug comes out by hand, no tools needed. A solid aluminum PalmSaver ramrod is included.
Stainless and nitride finishes shrug off moisture, so this muzzleloader is a good choice for wet hunts and humid climates.
What the 50 Caliber is good for
The 50 caliber is the most common modern muzzleloader bore. You’ll find the widest choice of sabots, conicals and pellet charges for it. Most hunters load 100 to 150 grains of powder (or two to three pellets) behind a 250 to 300 grain bullet. Check your state’s limits on charge size and bullet type.
Muzzleloader seasons and rules vary by state. The US Fish and Wildlife Service hunting page links to state wildlife agencies, and it’s worth checking yours before you load up.
